Training Drills
Training is important for all shooters, whether you are a beginner or an experienced marksman. Regular practice helps improve your skills, build muscle memory, and increase your confidence with firearms. Here are some effective training drills that can help you enhance your shooting abilities.
Pistol Drills
7 Yards
1 Silhouette Target
Fire 1 shot, perform a slide-lock reload, and fire 2 more shots. Focus on reload speed and target re-acquisition.
7 Yards
1 USPSA/IDPA Target
Fire 6 shots as fast as you can maintain a good group. Focus on recoil management and sight tracking.
7 Yards
1 Silhouette Target
Two shots to the body, followed by one well-placed shot to the head. Focus on transitioning between target zones.
7, 15, 25 Yards
3 USPSA Targets
Engage targets at varying distances to practice 'changing gears' between speed and precision.
7 Yards
1 USPSA/IDPA Target
Fire 2 shots, reload, and fire 2 more shots. A classic test of draw speed and reload efficiency.
7 Yards
3 Targets (1 yard apart)
Fire 2 shots each into 3 targets as fast as possible. Focuses on extremely fast target transitions.
3 Yards
Dot Torture Target (10 dots)
A 50-round test of pure marksmanship and trigger control. No time limit, but any miss is a failure.

3x5 card and 8" circle
The 'Fundamentals, Accuracy, & Speed Test'. Includes draw, precision shots, and a slide-lock reload.
7 Yards
8" circle
Fire 7 shots in 7 seconds from 7 yards, starting from the holster. All shots must be in the circle.
3-5 Yards
1, 2, and 3-inch circles
A Tactical Hyve classic that teaches the relationship between target size and shooting speed.
Rifle Drills
25-50 Yards
2 Silhouette Targets
Two shots to body of T1, two to body of T2, one to head of T2, one to head of T1. Practice transitions.
50 Yards
1 Silhouette Target
Similar to Mozambique but at distance with a rifle. Two to center mass, one to head.
15 Yards (Rifle), 7 Yards (Pistol)
2 Silhouette Targets
Engage with rifle until 'empty', transition to pistol and finish the engagement.
